Guatemala- 100km trek to El Mirador

4am start today!

Kirk and I said goodbye to our home stay family in Flores, Guatemala and left for El Mirador. It is a total of 100kms over 5 days through the jungle- no electricity, no wifi and no English speaking people. Just our guide, our mule, and Taylor Swift (until my battery runs out).

El Mirador is the biggest pyramid in the Mayan world, and it is estimated that in excess of 100,000 people would have been involved in its build. Since it is out in the jungle, and the only access to it is via this trek it is consequently untouched.

We will be out of contact for five days, so hang ten and we will be back. Here we go….
“Are we out of the woods yet?
Are we out of the woods yet?
Are we out of the woods yet?
Are we out of the woods?
Are we in the clear yet?
Are we in the clear yet?
Are we in the clear yet?
In the clear yet…. “

Hopefully I look like this in the woods. Fingers and toes crossed.
