My Time with Reddit

To start, I would like to point out that for an anonymous and free site, Reddit took me by surprise. After trying to post a third comment on a discussion thread after registering, I received this notice:

I laughed a bit, because there I was, sitting at my computer trying to type out my thought and opinions, and this website told me that I’ve been “doing that too much.” I found it interesting that they monitored and controlled how often one can post at a given time. This took me by surprise because I thought a site such as Reddit would promote and support multiple posts at a time.

Once I was able to post again, I joined in one some Coldplay threads. They are my favorite band of all time and I was simply curious to see what others were saying about them lately. The following screenshots are my contributions to the discussion thread, which sadly did not get commented on or an arrow up, indicating it was liked. My username is finley144.

I wrote this comments hoping it would spark some more conversation, considering these threads were just created a few days ago. I wanted to see if Sk1895 would have anything to say back to me considering I commented against what he was saying, but no response so far. I did enjoy reading through these comments, though, especially since the topic was something I’m so fond of.

I also went through the main pages on Reddit and laughed out loud at some of the material presented. The funny pictures posted and funny captions were fun and time consuming, although it was a little tricky to navigate the site before actually getting a hang of it.

I was scrolling through the “hot” list on Reddit and thought it was really interesting. Instead of deep news stories I have found that many of the posts are funny pictures, memes, videos, etc. One of them actually made me laugh out loud:

I think Reddit can be really useful and fun to visit when you’re searching for funny posts such as the one above. It’s humorous, light, and harmless — softer than 4chan. I wouldn’t necessarily visit Reddit on a regular basis just because if I want to look up an opinion or search something, my immediate reaction is to go to Google or a website I am more familiar with. But as far as anonymous, humorous and fun posts go, Reddit can be useful and some interesting perspectives can be found. I personally did not converse with people in the threads, but will be checking back to see if anyone had a response to some of my comments. I think it’s fascinating that we have the ability to communicate in an anonymous way such as this.
