Nope.

I am working on a project with a section similar to the old trolly philosophy dilemma but with a new twist. The first two scenarios set up the question of the 3rd. The one I am having trouble finding adequate words.

Scenario 1

You are an engineer driving a train. On the tracks ahead, you see a large group of people. If you continue, you will kill the group. Luckily, you can switch to a 2nd set of tracks and save the group. However, there is one person on the 2nd set of tracks that you will kill if you do switch. You have ten seconds to decide.

Your ONLY options are:

A. Kill the group.
B. Kill the one.

What would you do?

Scenario 2

The same situation as above, except it’s your child on the 2nd set of tracks.

You have ten seconds to decide.

Your ONLY options are:

A. Kill the group of people.
B. Kill your child.

What would you do?

Scenario 3

You and your family and friends are the group on the main track. The train’s driver can see her baby on the 2nd set of tracks. What do you want the mother to do?

Her ONLY options are:

A. Kill you and everyone you love.
B. Kill her baby.

After the dust settles, you and your family hug each other and cry tears of relief and joy. Without thinking, you turn to your right to give and get another hug, but it’s the mother that was driving the train.

Would you thank her for saving you and your family? Will you try to console her?

The one question is, what would you say to her?

Keep seeking, my friend.
