I sent this email to each of the candidates last night prior to today’s convention:

Each of you should be proud of all you’ve accomplished to get to this point. It has been a tremendous honor to monitor the development of each of your campaigns over the past few months. Running for public office is not easy; it’s even harder to do so while forging a campaign that reflects your genuine personality. In that regard, it appears as though you have achieved in doing what many of our local, state and national leaders have failed to do. Regardless of what happens tomorrow, our student body will be better off because of the many conversations you have had with students, the issues you have brought to the forefront, and the passion you have inculcated in other students as you have traveled throughout our county. I know that what will bring each of you to the stage tomorrow is your deep desire to improve our county; thank you for being a valuable partner in this mission I have pursued over the past two years.

I understand the long hours, compounding homework and induced stress of running a campaign that tries to reach 80,000 voters; I have felt the tightening knot in my stomach that you may feel tonight. Remember this: Serving as the SMOB is certainly a privilege. But it is one of many ways to give back to our education system and our community. Let tomorrow serve as one point in your journey of serving those around you.

Wishing everyone all the best,
Eric
