I’m an ICU Charge nurse. Everyday I work, and everything I do at work effects someone’s life. There are times in my job I have to detach myself from the “human” aspect of the patient, and perform a vital task. Ive reached into a persons open chest and held their heart in my hand, massaging it trying to save their life. How else could you do something like that? At the end of everything the person in the bed is a PERSON. What happens in that room at that moment could effect the rest of their life, and the life of their loved ones. There are people who’s job effects the very life of PEOPLE and their loved ones. When those who have that job DEHUMANIZE the person then we have a CRISIS. They have aspects of their job that they have to detach. It’s a human coping mechanism. The most important part is reattaching yourself to the HUMAN across from you. This is a huge part of this crisis. Police officers detached from the person at the end of their gun who don’t look like themselves = crisis.

(I’ve typed and retyped this hope it makes sense)
