Psalm 23:5

Did you ever notice that when you are offering great food people love you? I was thinking about this and thought of my middle school days. I remembered that when an unpopular kid brought a snack for the entire class they would automatically become popular, at least for one day. the popular kids would talk to them not that they were interested in the person but they were wanting the homemade cookie or piece of cake.
The smell of food is intoxicating and leads to the desire to eat as soon as your mouth waters. Movie Theaters sell popcorn on purpose for this reason. Once you enter you begin to smell the kernels and immediately you begin to have a craving for a food that you probably only eat when you go to the theater!
Now think of that coworker that you do not like to talk to. If that person brought fresh doughnuts or apple pie to work and you didn’t eat breakfast… You would probably pretend to be that person’s best friend as you are offered a serving.
This made me think of Psalm 23:5 “You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil my cup overflows.” I think this is a very powerful verse because in the context of Jesus being our shepherd this verse not only says that he will provide you with nourishment but will do it in front of your enemies. Jesus will bless you in front of your enemies! This means to me that those who hate you and despise you will see your blessings. They will smell your food in a sense because they will not be able to ignore what is happening to you.
Now when you smell delicious food that makes your mouth water so much that you desire to taste it, you have two choices. You can either go up to the person and ask for a serving politely or go hungry and watch them eat it.
