Ruined Sermon Part 2

I realized talking about the my ruined sermon that I turned that story into a tutorial into how NOT to ruin a sermon. Perhaps you may have been curious on how bad that sermon was.

I can honestly say it was the worst sermon I have ever preached. I came to my home church late that day without rehearsing and studying for the sermon I preached. I was overconfident in my skills thinking that I have preached a handful of times before and I would have no problem preaching again.

I arrive at church and right before I preach I become extremely nervous. My mind began to race and I started thinking that I preached the sermon I had written for the day before. I begin to scramble and look at my collection of sermons for a sermon I am 100% positive I had not preached before. I also think there will be a translator which is how I was accustomed to preach.
When I go up I realize I have no translator and my mind is blank. I begin to preach a simple introduction but when it came time to make the scripture and theme relatable I could not find the method to do that.

The Jokes I told fell flat, my stories were odd and not genuine. I even resorted to sound effects and over explaining my thoughts (which I am still guilty of doing somewhat) I couldn’t find a middle and conclusion to my sermon.
If this sermon was told in a preaching class it would have received an F. However, the sad thing was I had sinned. I had taken my responsibility to bring the Word of God to a church lightly. I believe this mistake had to be made in my life so that I would strive to never make it again.
