John McCain is not Adolph Hitler, and there is not enough space in this box to illustrate what I think — and hope — are the obvious differences. McCain is guilty of advocating a violent foreign policy that any reasonable person should find abhorrent, including me. Lots of people agree with him, though, and they do so because in their view — which I think is warped and foolish — that’s how you protect us from the “bad guys.”

So yes, calling for someone to die a miserable death for advocating policies that you disagree with, based on a carefully selected list of articles found on the Internet and put together by a so-called journalist with a narrow point of view and monolithic thinking is appalling.

It also embodies the very criticism being leveled on him in the first place. And it shows how easily someone starting out with the best intentions can be manipulated into supporting a conclusion that dehumanizes a person to the point where we stop acting like humans ourselves. If you want to bring up a Hitler comparison, it’s the use of propaganda and fear that whips people up so they act like non-thinking monsters towards those who they have been told deserve to die.
