Dessert for Dinner. The Heat Dome Bubble is About to Burst. Chick Pea Experiment Part One.

Well, given the lack of total destruction I’d say a deer came along and ate all the longer flowers again. I imagine a skunk or groundhog would have needed to use their front paws to pull the flowers down to them but these are cut cleanly. Luckily, all of the food is fine. And why wouldn’t it be if the deer can fill up on flowers on the top tier of the garden they don’t need to come below.

Still no word from the Health Department yet. I’m thinking if I don’t hear anything in a week I’ll just drop by the office and make sure my paperwork is OK. I get it, it’s local government bureaucracy, but it’s been almost 2 weeks.

As I write that I realize that’s not long for waiting for a government agency response. But next week will be plenty of time for a follow up.

We get a break from the heat tomorrow. Mid 80s finally. But by Sunday we’re supposed to be over 90 again.

This has been my life for the last few weeks:

AC is on. But it’s old and weak. This is fan number one blowing over a freezer pack.

Fan number two this is on my studio desk. Also blowing over a freezer pack.

Fan three. You guessed it, freezer pack. Sorry about the mud on the floor. I tracked it in and haven’t mopped it yet.

I started the chick pea burger experiment. This is my baseline. The patty on the right had the husks removed before blending and the left was blended with the husks intact. Both got 1/4 cup of Italian bread crumbs as a binder. The husks intact version browned much better which I found interesting.

There is not much tooth to it so it was too mushy in the center. I need a more burger like consistency. I was thinking about picking up some black beans but then I think I may have the answer in my pantry already.

I think this may be it. So the next pass will include lentils. Once I get the consistency right I worry about flavor.

That’s all the cooking I could do today.

So I went with something ice cold for dinner.

Heavy whipping cream, honey, blackberries and a pinch of salt.

That all goes in the mixing bowl. I threw in a little balsamic glaze to darken it more.

Then the liquid got whipped by hand and that all went in the fridge for an hour.

Mixed fruit and cantaloupe. Another drizzle of honey and orange zest. After the taste testing with the chick pea patties this is all I needed for dinner.

So nice and cold going down.

Tomorrow is to be a nice breezy 85 degrees but what I’m most excited about is the fact that tonight will get down to 67 degrees. I’m going to open windows all over the house and get it as cold as a darn ice box in here.

Tonight, as things are cooling off, I have some learning to do, drawing to do, and some writing to do.

Since the temps have dropped inside the studio I have no excuse not to crank out some work.
