Benefits of Prototyping Without Assets

Why is it that prototyping is so important you say? Well lets look into the benefits of using quick and easy placeholders before starting a project and before committing to the polishing phase.

Quick Prototype

Prototyping is beneficial in a vast of different industries. Web and app development has wire frames, automotive has rough mock ups using things like Autocad, architects use drafting to blueprints, etc…

These prototypes are used to give a structured focus on the mechanics and ideas planed for the project, to see if what is planned will work the way one had hoped.

Everyone has ideas and things they want to implement, but things can change over time. Features can clash or become redundant. In game development, a whole world or level can change, making some ideas now irrelevant.

Even though you can’t stop all the changes that could happen, the prototyping phase, without paying for assets and the work to be done at full scale, saves both time and money.

Time is better spent making rough mock ups to show proof of concept before a commitment is made. It leads to rapid brainstorming, new ideas and everyone can get on the same page before production begins. You can then plan on budgets and resources needed to complete the project.
