How To Celebrate Properly Throughout The Day

The Daily Grind #64

From completing certain tasks to achieving milestones, there is a proper way I think for us to celebrate our achievements. It’s something that not a lot of people consider and even practicing at the beginning can be difficult.

At least for me I’m finding it a tad challenging at times.

I touch on how the best approach to celebrating throughout the day looks like in this video:

In the end though, I feel I’m only scratching the surface and I was onto something when I explain at the end how we focus on our goals we wish to achieve.

I break it into two camps: a main focus for goals you wish to achieve and then some side goals. When you finish a certain amount of tasks you move over to those other smaller goals.

Sounds simple enough right?

Well while this all makes sense in theory — much like the pomodoro technique — celebrating your success and work by doing more work isn’t always the best solution.

Some times we do actually need those breaks. But one other thing that’s important to consider is our motivation waves too.

Over the course of the day our motivation goes up and down. It fluctuates throughout the day and this in turn affects our focus and how effective we are. Each persons waves are different and it’s important to figure out where they are.

What this has to do with celebrating is simple. Celebrating is a means of lifting our spirits up more. We feel good, but we can also feel motivated in what to do next depending on what we do.

This doesn’t always mean that we need to do mindless tasks or exercise as a form of celebrating or relaxing. In general doing something that we enjoy thoroughly is a way for us to celebrate the progress that we have made.

It’s Not Always About Work Or Finding The Joy In Our Work

For sure, the hustle is great and keeps us going. Furthermore working mindlessly on a basic goal can help us to feel good too. But we aren’t always going to be motivated to do that.

Some people may want to sit and meditate or watch a Youtube video. These are things of betterment in certain cases, but they don’t always equate to us achieving higher success.

And that’s alright.

So long as the activity can lift you up to work again some more later on, this is what matters.

In a sense, taking these breaks is building of energy. And dispensing it constantly, even if it’s something as small as exercise or doing simple chores, can make an impact over time.

I know from my own experiences lately that being in constant work mode can be dangerous, even if I’m celebrating a batch of tasks I completed. So there needs to be breathing room where we can reap what we’ve been sowing.

To your growth!
