How To Keep Fans Waiting And Hyped Up
The Daily Grind #62
I’ll admit that I watch a good amount of Youtube videos. I’m not one of those people who has thousands of subscribers that I watch and keep up with. In fact, there’s only a handful of people I actually watch.
To give you a glimpse as to the type of people I watch, I’d like to talk about one of these channels whom I’ve been following for a while:
Team Four Star.
If you’re not at all familiar with them what they do is they take a particular anime, cut out scenes and replace all the voice acting with their voice acting.
And what sort of anime are they doing that too?
Well their main one is Dragon Ball Z. But they have also been working on Hellsing Ultimate as well as Final Fantasy 7.
They do fantastic work as it normally takes several weeks or months for them to release an episode. In fact they actually dropped episode 60 yesterday after it was delayed for over a year!
Seriously, my description isn’t doing this fantastic channel any justice.
But what’s more interesting is despite their main aspect of their channel taking several months or a year to produce something, the fan base has been loyal as ever. In fact, fans like myself enjoy going back through some of their old work and watching it over and over again.
Why is that?
It’s because they’re doing something interesting and are hyping it up.
Something Interesting
As writers and entrepreneurs we can leverage this. Of course it’s not going to be as way out there as voice acting every DBZ character and reenacting condensed episodes. Still one can tell that what they are doing is very niche.
In fact I only know one other channel who does something like this.
As writers what we can gather about this is to provide something unique for others. Whether it’s a writing style, using inside jokes, or perhaps the topics that we discuss.
Providing something interesting like that attracts people to you. In fact if you continue this interesting trend in your work, you could in theory have more people coming back to reread work.
Team Four Star has some incredible talent and their editing skills are superb. You’ll notice from the very start that their voice lines up with the characters mouth movements too.
Furthermore expressions are mainly on par too.
But also their lines are fantastic. The first line ever spoken is this:
“Oh no my mairijuana patch! I mean my….. Carrot patch… Yeah!”
It’s really out there and not something you’d hear in a children’s TV show today. Let alone one that a lot of us grew up with. It’s also hilarious how out of the blue it is. I chuckle every time.
But They Also Hype It Up
Fans have been waiting patiently for over a year for episode 60 and it finally dropped yesterday. They made a big announcement earlier this week they were dropping this episode.
Not only that but they were doing a live stream of the release but also were doing a TFS panel where they released the episode there.
They’ve been hyping it up for a while, giving us updates along the way, but they also stayed relevant. They were still releasing content.
In the past year they’ve had their characters play video games, but also were doing abridged episodes of other animes or video games like Hellsing Ultimate Abridged and Machinabriged (Final Fantasy 7).
What this means for writers and entrepreneurs is taking time to keep fans in the loop. You don’t have to be as open as they are with what sort of projects they are working on. After all, they have specific projects that they’ve been working on for years now, people know what they are.
But for writers and entrepreneurs, products, services, and content can be mysterious. Which is why we should take time to hype it up. Tell people in advance. Either through a video a post on social media.
In short, it’s selling the sizzle. And in the end you get people like me who are pumped to see what the next episode brings.
To your growth!
