Thanks for this Ted.

I’ve experienced this directed at me in the past. I think the negativity comes from three main places:

  1. People think they’re better or superior than someone else
    “What big projects have YOU worked on that make you superior?”
  2. The redesign is something they’ve worked on, and they’re offended by someone thinking they’ve made some kind of mistake
    “We had a reason for everything we did! How could you possibly think you could do better?!”
  3. They’re just trolls
    “I hate every time someone puts themselves out on a limb because I can’t do it myself.”

In all three cases, I think ignoring is the best response. I for one love to look at different perspectives on an established design.

One can only learn from others - why not embrace that opportunity?
