Portland Auto Show
The Portland Auto Show is an annual tradition with my son. He was born a little on the premature side the week of the show. My father-in-law and I took the light rail downtown as a break from hanging out at the hospital. There were early indications the pregnancy was not going well. Ty had stopped growing and was always barely above or below the minimum line for a healthy baby. Doctors gave us all the options and possible outcomes for Ty’s quality of life — all well intentioned — none of them as optimistic as we hoped. It gave us a lot to think about at the time, and here we are, 11 years later. The Auto Show means different things to different people, but to me it is a reminder of how lucky I am to be Ty’s dad.
We are partial to the Ford Mustang — it is always his favorite car to find at the show. This year, however, after Snowpocalypse a couple weeks ago, we had to try out all the Ford 4x4 Trucks (in which he shows he’s also lost his enthusiasm for Dad’s need to take pictures).
