How I Earned My First 8 Cents On Medium

Dear Reader,

I am so shocked! I can’t tell you how exciting it is to see my first earnings on Medium!!!

I know it is hardly anything but what it means for me is that I finally started monetizing my writing.

I launched my Lifestyle blog Real Deal Mum over a year ago, and I went through the usual blogger journey — setting up a website, launching first stories, collecting readers…and so on. That is still happening in the background. I am active on social media and engaging with my followers, and enjoying it.

However, I also started educating myself to learn about freelance writing and how to earn money for my work. Then I came across Medium.

What have I done to get to earn my first cents?

1. I started reading Medium stories, and learnt about Medium, how it works, etc.
2. I posted my first, then second, and third stories on Medium
3. I started following writers in my niche and writers who were writing about writing… and read, read and read more

By this point, I managed to gain ~60 followers — took me 9 months as I had only a limited FREE read per month — but to be accepted to the Medium Partner Program which became my goal — I needed to increase my…
