It's a lovely thought, but I'm not sure I agree. Certainly I wouldn't want to be in 1800 when a simple scratch could kill you. But in 2022 we're poised on a precipice and about to fall over--starting a time of horrific ecological, societal, political, and economic change. So yes, I'm glad to be alive in 2022 ('may you live in interesting times and all that') but I'm not sure this essay will age well. In a few years, people may be longing for the fire-free, flood-free (and yes antibiotic-free) life of the 1800s or at least the easy life of the 1950s or 90s.
