I call them salad friends and candy friends. When you’re a kid you just eat junk and crap — candy. You’re happy with candy and it’s good enough to sustain you.

As you get older, leafy green vegetables come into your diet and salad. You realize it’s better for you and more nutritious. You cut out the candy and junk.

It’s the same with friends. You kick the candy friends to the curb and get closer to the salad friends. That small group who meets your nutrition guidelines and makes you better.

It does get much harder to make friends as an adult. Mainly because your nutrition desire has increased. It’s just not enough to like to go to the bar with someone. You need someone who meets your personality and brain on multiple levels.

It’s much easier to make candy friends than salad friends.
