Need ideas for your business’ next blog post?

Dopeness — here’s 26 of em.

I hope they help you come up with something to write about in your business’ blog.

Sidenote: You don’t need to thank me or credit me — you can just steal any and all ideas that you like.

This was a boring-ass intro, let’s get into the ideas:

1. Showcase A Satisfied Customer

Grab a customer, ask them some questions, tell their story and plunk that shit on your blog — your customers will love you for it.

Why?

Because they’ll see themselves in that person that you showcased/featured/highlighted and their brains will go: “Oh, wow, that person seems to be incredibly happy after buying this company’s product — maybe I’ll b just as happy if I do the same thing!”

And so they’ll end up becoming your customer.

2. Devote a Blog Post to a Question From Your Q&A Section

The golden rule of a Q&A section is to be as simple and as straightforward as possible.

Otherwise the confused client who went there looking for help will leave even more confused and they won’t want to do business with you.

So a good way to solve this problem is to highlight a common problem and its solution in a separate blog post (and maybe even link to it in your Q&A section to make it easier for your customer) and help people that way.

3. Talk About Your WHY

People not only care about HOW you do things but also WHY you do them.

Here’s an opportunity to share more of your mission, your goals and your ambitions as a company.

Showing so much of yourself makes anyone who reads that blog post more connected to you and that connection is what will get them to become a customer (potentially for life).

4. Update Your Community On Changes That Concern Them

Imagine this: You have an app that millions of people use. While they were sleeping you change a whole bunch of things all at once in one unified update. They wake up and go “OH MY GOD WHAT HAPPENED?!”

But you’re smart enough to foresee that so you roll out a blog post updating everyone on what the hell happened.

Good job, you avoided MASS CONFUSION!

Well, maybe you didn’t but Tik Tok (formerly Musical.ly) did with their latest update!

And that’s definitely something you can do for YOUR business’ blog too — write a blog post about all the new changes your business is going through and how they affect your customers/fans/community.

5. Get People Excited By Writing a Sneak Peak of Something You’re Working On Behind The Scenes

I feel that it’s human nature to be nosy.

If you don’t want to know the secret recipe of Coca Cola or the secret formula of the The Krabby Patty (from Spongebob) then there’s something wrong with you and we can’t be friends.

That being said, though, most people want to know stuff they “shouldn’t” know — so give them a sneak peak and maybe they’ll love you for it!

6. Interview An Industry Though-Leader

Honestly not the easiest on this list of ideas to execute but that’s where the gold in it is buried — since it’s more difficult, less people will be doing it!

And if there’s only 3 places someone can find an interview with this person and 1 of them is YOUR WEBSITE then you’ll be sure that at least SOME of those people will be flocking over to you!

7. Showcase a Customer and Their Story

Maybe one day you went to the bakery you own and there was a woman there who was homeless but loved your cookies and wanted to get 1 for her sick elderly mother.

SHOWCASE THAT IN A BLOG POST. THAT’S A GREAT OPPORTUNITY.

Note: Be a decent human being and help that person however you can instead of just exploiting them for business growth. They are a person. They have a life, a story, their own struggles. They don’t exist solely for you to gain attention because of them so offer to help them if they seem to need it.

8. Announce That You’re Opening a Store In a New Location

Let’s assume that your bakery just opened it’s first ever location in Toronto.

There’s someone in Toronto that’s been following you on Instagram and on your blog but hasn’t been able to taste your cookies because you weren’t in their city.

So write a blog post when you open a new physical location so that the people in that area know FOR SURE that they can come to you!

9. Write a Round-Up Post of ALL The Places Where Your Customers Can Find *whatever you sell* in *their area*

If you have a small bakery, write a blog post of 10 places where someone can get the best cookies in town.

There’s 2 ways you can do this:

  1. If you choose to add yourself in that list then it’s obvious how that would help you — you’d be promoting yourself and helping people find delicious cookies.
  2. And if you choose to NOT add your own bakery in the list then now EVERYONE who likes cookies in that town will come to YOUR site for reference of where to buy cookies. So you’re now officially the cookie kingpin in your area — congrats!

10. Write a Post About How to Use Your Product

That special someone that sees your product on Amazon but doesn’t really know what the hell it does or how to use it will need a manual.

But don’t make it boring and don’t only put it in the box — ALSO give him a blog post he can refer to that explains everything simply.

Add some pictures, be funny — your readers will like you for it!

11. Highlight Things From Your Last Event

Apparently Apple have had an event.

I couldn’t give two shits about that.

BUT — I know about the Apple event from their blog.

I was just there 3 minutes ago and they have a blog post about it. So now I’m curious. And I might end up becoming a customer. Or I might talk about the event with other people and spread the word without even meaning to.

Do what Apple did — write a post about you last bakery sale and highlight all the awesome things that happened.

12. Give People Creative Ideas About How To Use Your Product

Sell shoes?

Show people how to paint their new pair of shoes (that they bought from you ideally).

Sell furniture?

Give people ideas on how to decorate different rooms in their house.

Sell blog posts?

Give people ideas on what blog posts to write (brilliant).

Tip: If you’re the creative person on your team then you can try and come up with these on your own but if not — try and get someone more creative than you to help you out.

13. Write A “Best Resources” Post

Relationship coaches, give people a list of your top 10 books for overcoming anxiety with approaching women or on how to get back together with your ex.

Marketers, give people the 3 courses you took that changed your life in terms of how you think about marketing and business.

Graphic designers — give people the 5 podcast episodes of any podcast you’ve listened to EVER that have opened your eyes on things and have helped you level up!

This will be appreciated by people whether they know you or not.

The people that know and trust you will be thankful for YOU SPECIFICALLY giving them recommendations.

And the people that don’t know you will now know you AND like you because of this free resource you’ve put together for them.

14. An “X Things We Wish We Knew Before We Started *insert your type of business here*” Post

Business is hard. Maybe you learned that the hard way (I did). Or maybe for you it was a breeze. Whatever your experience was/is — why not share it?

All the people that want to do what you do will look up to you and in the future might do business with you even if they’re not interested at all in you right now.

And people who won’t directly benefit from this blog post will get a chance to read about some of the struggles you’ve gone through! That’s gonna make you feel more human. People will like you more and will be more likely to buy.

It’s a good idea — go do it.

15. A “How We Make X” Post

Share your process!

You know what it is, it’s boring to you, yes — BUT — It’s NOT boring to someone else because they’ve NEVER SEEN IT BEFORE!

So it’s a great idea to give people a sneak peak!

16. Write A Blog Post About Debunking Common Myths or Misconceptions In Your Industry

There’s lots of confusion in people’s heads about everything.

Maybe if you wrote a post on some of these thing you’d make it even more confusing for a person…

But maybe you won’t make it more confusing and that’s what you should be aiming for!

If you pull off a good “10 Photography Myths DEBUNKED” post you’ll easily get the attention of LOTS of people because it’s interesting and eye-catching!

17. X Things To Avoid In *insert your industry here*

There are pitfalls in your industry. Maybe you’ve fallen into some of them yourself.

But that’s good because now you know what to look out for and you’re less likely to make the same mistakes, hopefully.

Now think of a person who DOESN’T have your experience.

They’ll just stumble blindly into things and hurt themselves…

News flash:

YOU CAN PREVENT THAT!

You can and should give them advice on how not to be stupid.

18. Teach a Basic Skill/Technique In Your Field

People don’t know things.

But you do.

So write a post and help someone out!

Examples:

  • Teach people how to decorate their bedroom if you’re an interior designer.
  • Teach people how to do a specific exercise properly if you’re a personal trainer.
  • Teach people how to do a specific dance move properly if you’re a professional dancer/choreographer.

19. Give Away A Freebie

If you already have a checklist or a cheat-sheet that you give away for free in exchange for the reader’s email then why not just take 1/3 of it and make it into a blog post?

It’s free info for the person reading it, it costs you almost nothing, and if you rewrite it well it’s not diminishing the value of your freebie that you send to people in exchange for their email!

20. Feature A Success Story

There’s nothing like a success story to get people excited.

“Here’s How This Mom Of Twins Made 7 Figures In 12 Months With Blogging” or something similar grabs the attention pretty quickly. In this case every mom with twins will want to click and figure out what she can do to ALSO make 7 figures.

21. Showcase Statistics In Your Industry

Some industries seem simple on the surface but can have more depth and that’s a great reason to just throw out a bunch of statistics in a list and call it a blog post!

It’s useful because you save people the time to research it!

22. Tell The History of Your Industry

Where do lightbulbs come from? Who was the inventor of desks? When was the first photo taken?

These are all questions that incite curiousity and if you can write a blog post covering stuff like this (e.g. “The History of Photography In 7 Minutes Or Less”) then people will inevitably come read it because it just sounds interesting.

23. Make a List of Products That Work Well With Your Product

Zapier is the ultimate example for this!

They’re an app that allows you to integrate a whole bunch of apps together and save you time (in theory).

Their app integrates with all kinds of popular and underground apps and softwares and their blog is dedicated to just showcasing how other apps work with Zapier!

Copy them, it’s a great idea!

24. Highlight One Customer And Their Problem

Self Authoring is an online program in which you write about your past, present and future in a structured way and that gives you health, wellness, discipline, focus and other benefits.

They have a post which simply outlines a customer and their problem and gives a reply as a personal note.

Copy this idea. It allows you to indirectly communicate with your potential (or current) customers and solve a problem they’re having.

25. Catch a Trend and Play Off Of It Creatively

The royal wedding. It happened. But did you use it to grow your business?

The Gottman Institute sure did. They wrote a blog post with scientifically backed up tips for a great marriage for the royal couple.

I wouldn’t have checked out their blog that day if I hadn’t been for that very timely and topical blog post. And if it worked on me you can bet your socks it worked on a whole bunch of other people and now we all know about The Gottman Institute. (I’m even subscribed to their Marriage Minute email newsletter!)

Can you copy that? Can you stay on top of trends? Can you be creative in a really tight deadline? If “yes” then DO IT because it’s a fantastic idea for your business.

26. Write Something You Came Up With On Your Own

You can’t come up with everything on your own — you need ideas from other people.

BUT there’s a chance that you can come up with a type of post that not a lot of people have written and if you do it well you’ll instantly stand out from most other people in your industry because you’ll likely be either THE ONLY or THE FIRST one with a post like that.
