Amazing story especially, given the fact he was employed by the VA after being convicted of a federal crime. As a former non-violent federal felon, it’s disheartening filling out a job application with the dreaded ‘have ever’ box looming in your path of supporting a family or paying your expenses. Or worse finding out you were the ‘perfect’ candidate for that dream job only to be disqualified because of a tarnished background check thanks to something you did at a younger, or more accurately, stupid time. Others will say ‘you should’ve thought about what you were doing,’ but if life is not that simple. Some have it made and some do not, some are very good at following directions, and some like to go the other way. The point is we are all different and unique, and ALL prone to making mistakes during our lifetimes. Growing up in Catholic private schools, the school priest would preach about how we should forgive as God has forgiven us, I guess that message only resonates on Sundays.
