The Business OS

We have had computers for more than half a century now. For much of that time, they have all been designed to run with an operating system that governs and automates basic functionality.

Modern computer operating systems use a graphical user interface to give users access to powerful functionality, allowing them to get the most out of their computer.

When entrepreneurs start a business, they spend a lot of emphasis and thought on their vision and how the business will make money. But most of the basic day-to-day tasks (sending invoices, paying bills, archiving data, setting up NDA’s, planning meetings, etcetera) are still done in a very basic and unplanned way. People found out how to do it through advisors, friends, or the internet. And they are doing it in a very inefficient way.

But what if that would be totally different? What if there was a ‘startup-in-a-box’ kit that, like an operating system, would make these tasks easy and efficient? That would make it possible to upgrade and learn from others how to run the day-to-day tasks in your company?

In my opinion, we need to start seeing operating systems as something that goes way beyond the limits of the box housing the microchips, way beyond even obvious extensions like the cloud. There should be operating systems that help you start a business, run your home, and lead your life.

To do that we need totally different interfaces to interact with them, and they need to be designed in a way that does not require a human to give step-by-step instructions. They need to understand the context of their surroundings and act accordingly. And they will need to be flexible.

Because, be honest: who has the time to give instructions.
