You are more than generous towards Dayen, especially given your personal struggle with healthcare and our deeply flawed healthcare industry (not system). Now is not the time for diplomacy, but for finally holding moderate Democrats accountable for pulling the wool over Californian’s eyes for so, so long. It seems best to look at the bigger picture here, in terms of the purpose that SB562 can serve for the state, and for the country as a whole. You’re right, Rendon is taking the heat, but let’s highlight that he’s protecting other Democrats who are afraid of jeopardizing their corporate funding base. The legislative process that Rendon is blocking would shine a light on which elected officials are there as representatives of their constituents, and which are there as career politicians. Whether he intends to or not, Dayen’s voice is protecting the enemy of single-payer healthcare — corporate healthcare giants that profit from sickness and suffering. There are few shared moral codes that transcend cultural and national boundaries, if not only one. Human life is priceless, and yet we continue to allow the healthcare industry to violate this precious moral code every single day. If we don’t stand for single-payer healthcare, without compromise, then we stand for the price sign that is on each of our heads.
