Workers Were Fired for Taking Part In ‘A Day Without Immigrants’ Protest
Nicole Dieker

“They just forgot about the 50 other people who work here,”[I Don’t Care owner Bill McNally] said. “If the cooks don’t show up, then servers don’t have jobs, and customers can’t eat.”

Fire them or don’t, they didn’t forget. They were making their point, and if he doesn’t understand what this country would be without immigrants, then he shouldn’t be in the restaurant business.

And how do you replace a foreman and 30 bricklayers without disrupting your business more than the missing day of work? I’m just assuming these guys must solidly be on the other side of the issue. I understand the risk of being fired, I don’t understand the lack of compassion or empathy.
