I resolved to stop reading books by white dudes for all of 2016 (because I historically have read a ton of dystopian sci fi and that’s almost all white dudes) and have really enjoyed and would highly recommend these books:
- Half a Yellow Sun by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
- The Orenda by Joseph Boyden (or Through Black Spruce by Joseph Boyden…. or really anything by Joseph Boyden)
- The Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan
- Anything written by Thomas King
2 and 4 are perhaps maybe more Canadian specific recommendations (though I find Boyden’s writing in particular to be so captivating) and deal with indigenous culture/issues. I’ve been meaning to check out Elena Ferrante though!
