I don’t think being autonomous is a necessity for EV popularity. We can already see it happening. Level 5 autonomy would obviously be deeply complementary with electric vehicles but we’ll get a lot of pushback and slowness with local Government laws, the transition to mostly EVs will be fast; fully autonomous vehicles will take as long as it take to convince baby boomers its safe + works + is awesome for everyone.

An electric motor is 90% efficient in delivering momentum from its energy use while a combustion engine is about 20% at best. The pure economy of using electrons is a huge leap in savings, I don’t think it can be ignored for ALL drivers purchasing decisions. full ownership or subscription based.
