But the fact of the matter is that men and women both perpetuate patriarchy. I don’t think it’s fair to ask good men to shoulder the blame for bad men, and I think that the muslim example is a perfect one. If a BLM activist asked you as a white person to take the blame for violence against black people, would that even make sense? It’s fair to ask people to be outraged, and to communicate that outrage, as you do in your article. It’s not fair to ask them to take the blame, and it just serves to alienate a portion of the audience that you want to reach. The violence against women that you describe is a horrifying, angering, terrible thing, and as you say, a crime against humanity. But I don’t see how asking good men to take the blame for this helps anyone, and I think there’s an argument to be made that it stands in the way of unity and progress.
