Hello friends! My name is Erin Brown and I am a sophomore at Grove City College. I was born in Atlanta, Georgia. However, I grew up in Topeka, Kansas. I have two parents who love me dearly and have helped shaped me into the young Christian woman I am today. I love to travel and to hike! One thing I really enjoy is spending my days out on the lake. I could boat for hours on end! I have a passion for the ministry of Young Life, where I serve as a Wyldlife leader for middle school students. I love hanging out with them and sharing God’s word to them. I double major in Communications and Christian Ministries. I have chosen to pursue the major of communications for multiple reasons. Since the major is very broad, I have various amount of opportunities to pursue to areas of interest. In choosing to major in communications, I am given the chance to closely look at the way people interact over social media and in person, which is important in today’s world in pursuing jobs. I also paired my communications major with Christian Ministries, as I said before. I did this in hopes of in the future I can acquire a job in the field of ministry and having studied communications will benefit me a long way in this job field. I think that the media in 2018 is a very influential source. The media becomes a place where people get information from, where people do business, or a place in which people communicate through. The media has been beneficial to our society in those ways. For example, when a college student needs to write a research paper, they can easily find what they are looking for on Google. Another example, is people doing business and selling products over Instagram. Media has also made it easier for people to communicate with their loved ones who live far away. However, though media has been beneficial to our society, it as also been a detriment to it. It is much easier for a student to plagiarize because of the media, such has copying and pasting the information they found for their research paper. Our society has become lazier thanks to online shopping, instead of getting out ourselves. Cyber bullying has become a big issue as well in discussing media. The media changes every day and people are learning and figuring out how to make it better each day. However, in general in 2018, I do not think that our culture could survive without the media. Our society is extremely dependent upon it.
