Why Yoga?

A simply riveting metaphor was introduced to me today about the art of yoga. Before I get started, I have been delving into the art of yoga as of recently for purposes of being more flexible and strong, to learn a new hobby (blah blah blah). However, I was watching a talk on Oprah by Marianne Williamson where she discusses the discipline that is manifested from the art and training of yoga that seeps into other areas in your life, and my idea of why I am delving into the practice of yoga is completely altered.

To discipline oneself in yoga, a person trains her mind and body to learn poses, positions and methods to ultimately train yourself to rest with ease in harder positions. Like kindness, love or humility (I could go on), these characteristics are not easy to “rest” in. They are in fact difficult to remember all the time to act on. However, our minds have attitudinal muscles, like that of our bodies, that can too grow and be trained so that our minds may rest in these harder states.

To be able to live in the resting state of constant love, humility and selflessness…
