I’ve always thought that it was a surrender on Will’s part. He knows what he’s become, and what the implications of that mean, and he decides that the fall will be a coin toss of sorts. When they’re talking about the bluff, Will is pointedly examining the cliff, almost to see if a fall would potentially be survivable. In his mind, if they survive, then surrendering to his darkness and his becoming is fate and he will accept it. If they don’t, then he’s sacrificed himself and Hanni for the greater good, because he knows that he can no longer go back to his old life now.
