Vue.js PWA Project

In our previous article, Why Progressive Web Apps, we have identified a few benefits that PWA provides to improve web applications for online and offline usage. With a bit of responsive design, Progressive Web Apps would be perfect for both mobile and desktop markets.

In this article, we will cover how to build our first PWA project with the Vue.js framework by implementing the PWA minimum requirements, configure Webpack to build a caching services worker for offline support and run the Google Lighthouse audit tool to identify improvement points.

In this article, I will be providing a comparison between the Cordova and React Native frameworks. It will primarily focus on the overview of build performance, app performance, and debugging capabilities.

Background

Before getting into the overview of each category, let’s cover some of the basic background information about each framework.

Apache Cordova

Apache Cordova, formerly known as Adobe PhoneGap, is an open source framework for creating cross-platform hybrid mobile applications using web standard technologies such as HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript. Cordova has been around for many years with a lot of resources available on the internet. …

cordova-plugin-cocoapods-support is a Cordova/PhoneGap plugin which allows you to define plugin or project CocoaPods dependencies for iOS within the XML file. However, when using with cordova-ios@4.5.2 or greater, Cordova compile command will fail. This article will point out the changes that caused this issue and potential solutions to get your iOS builds passing again.

Cause

When Cordova released cordova-ios@4.5.2, the new variable, location, was introduced and contained the necessary information for the platform builder to fetch the bundle identifier. One of the attributes of the new variable was the path to the pbxproj file. …

Coined by Alex Russell and Frances Berriman, Progressive Web Apps (PWA) is a concept where web apps will be able to provide users the best experience in reliability, speed, and engagement. This is achieved by utilizing the latest growing native device supported features and services from modern web browsers.

Progressive:
(adjective)
1. favoring or advocating progress, making progress toward better conditions, going forward or onward.

As the collection of native device features from modern web browsers continue to grow, web applications should also be able to support them. …

If you are reading this, I suspect you are having trouble with Windows 10 and BitLocker at the “Preparing Automatic Repair” screen.

With much fiddling around, I was able to figure out a work around solution.

Background

Before we begin, let me explain my issue. It is possible what you are experiencing is different, so I want to clear up any confusion.

  • My OS drive is encrypted with BitLocker.
  • Computer always freezes at Windows start up.
  • I can insert my BitLocker password on the initial boot up screen.
  • I can not insert my BitLocker password at the Preparing Automatic Repair screen.

A simple static application has fewer security concerns compared to a dynamic application that requires an internet connection. An example concern, that a developer might have with either a static or dynamic application is how to prevent non-authorized users from copying or reading the source code. This can easily be resolved by encrypting to the application content.

More security concerns appear when an internet connection is established for fetch data. This connection can put a user or application at risk. The biggest concerns, either hybrid or native development, is the data integrity. Did the data come from the originated source…

Monaca Cloud IDE now supports GitHub and Git operations. Git is software that helps the management process of source code. This type of software is better known as version control or source control. Some of the benefits that Git provides is full source code version history and cross collaboration with distributed development.
