An engine is a machine that converts one or more forms of energy into mechanical energy; in simple words, it converts power into motion! Almost all vehicles use a certain type of engine (Almost because cycles don’t, or maybe our legs are the engines).

The word “engine” originates from the Latin word “ingenium”. In the modern world “engine” is used to describe devices that consume fuel to produce mechanical work. Devices converting heat energy into motion can also be called engines. “Motor” is another word that can have a similar meaning to “engine”, the two words are often interchangeable.

Engines in aviation

An aircraft engine is the part of the plane that provides power. Much similar to our stomachs, the engine takes air from the atmosphere to produce energy. Various types of engines are used and have been used in the aviation industry, not similar to our stomachs.
