I like that your first para highlighting that it was a gender-blind decision.
While I recognise the call for more female founders / investors (yay Shannon!), I think to actively say I will only fund / hire a certain gender, race, socio-economic group, is not really a solution. I feel that it comes too much from a position of superiority helping the helpless.
Idealistically, we should all encourage the call of gender-blind, colour blind, income blind hiring. I understand there are half-steps that we might need take, but lets take these steps with that grand view in mind.
