Job Interview Questions for better hires

- Focus on the work related question. And, avoid predictable questions like what are your biggest strength and weakness or where do you see yourself in 10 years?, etc. Ready the question that are hard to practice and that has a ready made answer.
- Brain-teasing questions are the thing of the past. Grade or the test score doesn’t leads to the great hires.
- Avoid asking them historical question, like how they did in the past company when this or that happened. These things are very irrelevant to the present company due to the company culture, change in time and others. And, if the person is a good story teller, then they’ll use rhetoric to increase the role even if they had a minor role, this can back fire the company in the long run.
- The best way to interview is to give them a chance to show their proficiency in the related work. Give them the job related work and see how well they perform. This helps to find out their strength or weakness in the real time. Or, tell them to walk through their plan in their first week of the job. Or, give them a flawed case and tell them to figure out what they can see, how to solve that particular problem.
- See if they are forward looking or not. In today’s fast pace environment, candidates need to be forward looking, they need to understand and predict the evolution of their job. This show if they are well informed about the job or not.
- Tell them to outline their plan for the first 6 months of their job. A good candidate will plan well before the execution.
- See if they are innovative, adaptive or learning oriented. Test them by asking them to provide the steps by giving them some cases and see how well they can develop the steps to deal with the situation.
- Avoid the question related to academics or experience as they’re already included in the CV.
