Evil genius

I’m a little drunk on power today. It all started when the FB message went out about morning practice. After a few suggestions of 7:15 or 6:15, I chimed in with, “I can only do 5:15”. Which is true. Practice is an hour, which gives me just enough time to quickly get ready and get to work.

Now, 5:15 in the morning is a hideous time to get to the rink. First of all, you have to wake up before that to get ready and drive. Thank goodness I live ten minutes from the rink. I can wake up at 4:30. That will get me to the rink at around 5. You have to allow at least ten minutes for putting on all of the gear. I’ve gotten pretty quick at this. I don’t mess around.

So after I said 5:15, it was like I had played a Jedi mind trick on them. All of a sudden, they all start responding with, “I could do 5:15”. I could tell that none of them really wanted to, but they fell for it. Either that or they really want me to practice. Which honestly could be the truth. The last hold out said, “Who is bringing the coffee?” My response, “You are.”

This morning, I was running about five minutes late. But that was just going to make everything that much better! They would be waiting and wondering…did she play us? Is she really coming? Oh, there was a huge sigh of relief when I walked into the locker room. From all five of them. “We were wondering…”
Yep, I knew you were. I was counting on that. Evil laugh inside my head.

The practice was great. Best part was snaking the puck away from my linemate, Jeremy during the 3 on 3 scrimmage. I thanked all of them after I quickly changed and got the hell out of there. My clock was running and I needed a few minutes for the Starbucks line. A grande coconut milk latte is a must after getting up that early. Yes, I drink better coffee, but for some reason, I felt like slumming it a little today. Maybe it was because Jeremy brought gas station coffee to the practice. Who drinks that stuff? My stomach would move out of my body immediately.

Honestly, sticktime is WAY more fun with people you know than all by yourself with strangers. I’m hoping that I can talk them into another 5:15 practice. I think they had fun. Well, until I saw the FB message from Jeremy today. “It’s not even 1:30pm and I’m hitting the wall.” Hey, I warned him in advance that 2pm would be tough. Or maybe that gas station coffee was his downfall???
