Hard News: Beloved Golden Retriever Saves owner from Alligator Attack
Early Wednesday morning, John Smith, a 37-year-old accountant from Boston was just finishing his daily morning swim in the Charles River when his seven-year-old Golden retriever, Hank leapt past him into the river. When Smith reached shore, he realized Hank had saved his life from a massive 15-foot alligator that had been trailing him. Both Smith and his dog were unharmed except for a bite in the dog’s back left leg that required 17 stiches.
Smith, who has had Hank since he was a puppy said “Hank is my best friend and I’m never going swimming without him.” The attack, which occurred on the portion of the Boston University campus known as BU Beach is the first of its kind although swimming only became legal in the Charles river three years ago…

As a bewildered John Smith neared shore after his daily morning swim in the Charles river he saw his beloved golden retriever leap past him. When Smith finally dragged himself onto the shore and glanced back into the river a horrifying sight greeted him. His heroic dog Hank was locked in battle with a Massive 15-foot beast. Smith, who had been entirely unaware of the danger trailing him immediately called 911 but the battle was soon over and Hank, the heroic golden retriever painfully crawled to shore with a gaping bite in his back left leg.
At 7 A.M Wednesday morning Hank, the dog truly became man’s best friend when he saved his owner, a 37-year-old Boston accountant from an alligator attack. On the topic of his four legged best friend Smith said “Hank is my best friend and I’m never going swimming without him.”
