I love this point. When we hear real world stories of rape, torture, and murder, a lot of us fall into 'this would never have happened to me because I would have done this, that, or the other' thinking that dismisses the victim's experience. But in stories, we're stuck with the character. Their experience is our experience, and when that experience is portrayed well, there's no room to think 'I would have been smart enough to avoid this.'
