Multiple Definitions For Appreciation

Appreciation means several things (like in terms of interest rates or any monetary thing and in terms of gratitude), but one definition stands out: acknowledgement or a full understanding of something. I think you can appreciate artwork at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts or the Louvre and not think twice about the artists’ genuine talent and intrigue. You appreciate their art so much so that you begin to critique the art and the artists: for making such bold decisions of color, size, shape, depth, perspective, content, etc. or for not thinking too outside of the box perhaps.

And ultimately, art is about a combination of those factors (i.e. color, depth, perspective, etc.) — a combination that has to be just right, just so. You begin to categorize art, as music is categorized (by key signatures, note patterns, chord progressions, rhythms, historical periods, etc.) or dance is categorized (by region, style, step routine, etc.). You begin to hypothesize and think within the art itself, as an object within the art or as a person within the art.

And if you appreciate, or acknowledge, the art to such an extent, then you will most certainly go to auctions to buy said art. Yet, digital art is now commonplace, also known as graphic design.
