Winter Art from the VMFA
Japanese Art
The VMFA is such a beautiful museum with so many works of art. I’ve been there before, as my family and I went to Richmond during the New Year timeframe in 2020, before Covid-19. Hasui Kawase made such a splendid rendition of Japanese architecture in alignment with, & contextually framed in, such a season as this: winter. And now, it is the Winter Solstice. By the way, artwork makes for great screen savers/home screen wallpapers on your phone[s].
Each little dot of snow brings such wonder and amazement at the power of God to still provide precipitation for the plants of various species amidst winter climates. I love the colors of white, black and blue. There are darker shades of blue and lighter shades of blue in this painting, yet there may also be black in this painting. I don’t know for sure. Such a masterful stroke of genius. I am only artistically inclined in terms of music and writing, rather than art itself, although I have artist friends.
“In Japanese culture, there is a belief that God is everywhere — in mountains, trees, rocks, even in our sympathy for robots or Hello Kitty toys.” — Ryuichi Sakamoto
“Japanese architecture is traditionally based on wooden structures that need renovating on a regular basis.” — Tadao Ando
