Explaining Brexit to an American friend
Tobias Stone

“Basically people are angry with the Establishment and this was a chance to kick it.”

Boris and Farage saw themselves as noble losers, who, after graciously losing in a close race with ‘Remain’, could spend the next few years saying “I told you so..” and gathering sympathy and support. Unfortunately that all went wrong when they won. Farage resigned immediately to ‘spend more time with his family’ (what a coward) and Boris found himself elevated and effectively neutralized in a position of public importance which he dare not mess up. I believe they were completely dumbfounded to win, and many of us are appalled not so much that the nation voted to leave (that’s their democratic right), but that B&F have acted with such cynicism.
