Tteokbokki Recipe
Ingredients:
- 1 pound of Tteok (Korean rice cakes)
- 4 cups of water
- 4 ounces of fish cake, sliced into small pieces
- 2 hard-boiled eggs, sliced in half
- 2 green onions, chopped
- 1/4 cup of Korean red chili paste (Gochujang)
- 1 tablespoon of soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon of sugar
- 1 tablespoon of corn syrup or honey
- 1 tablespoon of sesame oil
- 2 cloves of garlic, minced
- Instructions:
Soak the Tteok in cold water for at least 30 minutes to soften them.
In a large pot, bring 4 cups of water to a boil.
Drain the Tteok and add them to the boiling water. Reduce the heat to medium and cook for 5–7 minutes until the Tteok is fully cooked.
While the Tteok is cooking, make the sauce by combining the Korean red chili paste, soy sauce, sugar, corn syrup or honey, sesame oil, and minced garlic in a small bowl. Mix well.
Once the Tteok is fully cooked, add the fish cake slices, hard-boiled eggs, and chopped green onions to the pot.
Pour the sauce over the Tteok and mix well until everything is coated evenly.
Cook for an additional 5 minutes on medium heat until the sauce thickens and becomes slightly caramelized.
Serve hot and enjoy!
Notes:
- Tteokbokki is traditionally a spicy dish, but you can adjust the level of spiciness by reducing or increasing the amount of Korean red chili paste used in the recipe.
- You can also add other ingredients to your Tteokbokki, such as sliced carrots, mushrooms, or onions, to make it more flavorful and nutritious.
- Tteokbokki is typically served as a snack or street food in Korea, but it can also be enjoyed as a main dish or side dish.
