What do you live for?
Let’s sit down for a minute and chat.
“A society grows great when old men plant trees in whose shade they know they shall never sit”
What’s your purpose on this planet? As a woman is it to get married, have children and take care of them and the house? As a man is it to provide for the family? Is this all there is?
Now of course both of the partners provide and both of them take care of the kids. In some parts of the world they are not women or men anymore, nor can you tell the difference. Everyone has the choice to do whatever they want.
Make it your life purpose to never have a family, travel a lot, have dogs and cats or any different animals as pets instead of children. Nothing is stopping you.
It’s almost impossible to buy a home without selling your soul to the bank, so we take care of a home that isn’t even ours.
Those people who don’t feel the need to have a family and live by them or don’t feel like they have the time to invest in a family, they do great by others, their purpose is to build communities, help the helpless, change the society, help animals, help the planet, the people who move things and move other people.
So, coming back to the start of this story, don’t we need to leave something behind? Some say our legacy is our children and the way we raise them. But what about the people who don’t or can’t have children? What’s their legacy?
I guess their legacy is every life they touched, the small gestures they will be reminded by, for a short while anyway.
I don’t think I care much about being remembered. But I do care if the world is a little better after I leave. This planet is filled with horrible people, men and women who just want to hurt each other and others, sad and angry people who don’t care about anything.
People who just want to get rich no matter the consequences. People who are just so sad that don’t care what happens to their loved ones or anything in their surroundings.
The night is dark and full of terror.
Some terrible people are just starting wars to leave something to be reminded by. What a horrible legacy.
But other people chose to make the most of today, they smile for no reason to strangers, they give love and nice words to their family, they chose to be silent when the other is angry and choose to not speak when they could say something hurtful instead.
I want to be this kind of people, the last one, so help me God. I don’t want to do anything impressive, but I do want to be remembered by my love towards others.
Tell me in the comments what do you want to be remembered by.
