The next Google business model: my conspiracy theory
In 2016, the US will hold its presidential elections. As time approaches, dirty secrets about the candidates will start to surface. No one will be speared by this agonizing scrutiny especially in this “twitter-age” when breaking news especially dirty laundry trend worldwide in a short time. Voters will be greatly influenced by the media consumption and will swing by whomever the media in general rallies behind. This; being one typical example of our exaggerated media supported by social media.
Fast-Forward to 2040 where all the candidates will all have been born in the Internet era, maybe even their parents documented their birth (ewww,). A click on Google will be able to show every aspect of someone’s life. Eric Schmidt & Jared Cohen in “the new digital age” argued that laws will be enacted to make obsolete any information about actions done when a person is under age. But will it prevent the public opinion to be molded based on that specific information although not legally acceptable? Will the media and other potential supporters continue to support that particular person, if public opinion is heavily founded on such information?
For that I believe that in the next few decades, Google will introduce a way for us to pay for making data “unsearchable”(FYI: these days, you can have access to your browsing history & delete it). To which extent do you want to make this data unsearchable?
This payment mode would be based on levels:
Level 1: hide all info done available for less than 18 yrs old expect school related information
Level 2: choose relevant information to be showcased when under 18 yrs & remove any socializing trace after 18 yrs.
Level 3: Ability to completely disappear from the internet
Level 4: total ability to manage your online presence.
Google may start performing data analysis on your data and suggesting which data you may wish to hide. Bullying into doing it wouldn’t also be a far-fetched idea as failure to pay to hide the information may result in that particular info appearing at the fore-front of any search either related to you or not.
I love technology and conspiracy theories, so I decided to combine them and let my mind have fun. The above statements are not based on any facts, just pure random theories from my small brain.
Hope you will have fun adding on the theory!
