This was a very tough week for 90’s enthusiasts and retro fans. Nintendo released the SNES classic pretty much in the middle of the night for East Coasters (2am at Best Buy, 4am at Amazon) while pre-orders sold out in 5 minutes at Gamestop. At least, that’s what an employee told me after I literally ran there as fast as I could to try to get one!
And then Nintendo had to tease everybody by releasing this ridiculously awesome trailer:
Ugh. I miss the 90’s so much. Part of the reason I had a 90’s themed wedding was because it’s the last time I felt the world was warm, fuzzy and safe. I have memories of my grandmother’s house in Kansas. Hanging out with the other kids, climbing up giant oak trees and playing at my friend Mike’s tree house. My grandfather chided me for being so boyish, while my grandmother just smiled and said, “She’ll grow out of it!” as I washed all of the mud off of my skin and put my dirty clothes in the wash.
The 90’s were a time where anything was still possible, and nothing made me feel comforted more than sitting down in front of my TV with some Cool Ranch Doritos, Hi-C and flipping the switch on my Super Nintendo. I suspect many others still feel that same way today, which is the only reason this product would sell out when many of us could build our own on a Raspberry Pi.
