2016 New Year’s Habits

This year, I thought I’d create a list of habits I want to strengthen or start in the new year. One or two aren’t actual habits, they’re resolutions but I thought I’d throw them in anyway.

In 2015, I read a lot about forming new habits and used what I learned to improve Growbot. In 2016, I want to continue more of the same by discovering my internal workings and using what I learn to build a product that does the same for others. Growbot has the potential to form organizational habits that make people feel happier in their jobs. Most of our waking hours are spent working so why not use products to help improve those hours?

Here are my habits:

  1. Practice Tai Chi daily.
  2. Journal daily.
  3. Read 25 pages daily.
  4. Drink only on the weekends.
  5. Cycle up Kings Mountain (or something comparable) twice a month.
  6. Finish Thinking Fast and Slow.
  7. Complete a video game.
  8. Think originally more often. As Peter Thiel writes:
The essential first step is to think for yourself. Only by seeing our world anew, as fresh and strange as it was to the ancients who saw it first, can we both re-create it and preserve it for the future.
