Instagram foodies share 200+ restaurants they love

By Michael Guigli, Co-Founder, Etch

Do you follow any food-related accounts on Instagram or Twitter? If so, you’re no stranger to the mouth-watering imagery from social media influencers that has exploded in the past few years. You probably throw them a like from time to time, however, that tasty looking cheeseburger will inevitably succumb to “the scroll” where it will reside with its predecessors in a compost pile of forgotten #foodporn. What if the content didn’t just disappear into the abyss? Better yet, what if you could easily access an organized list of restaurant recommendations from influencers and industry experts?

You’re in luck. Today, we’re excited to announce the launch of Featured Accounts! We’ve partnered with amazing influencers and industry experts from New York to Bali who have created Collections (“Best Of” lists) of their favorite restaurants, which are now available to everyone in Etch. You can download Etch from the app store here.

Why did we launch Featured Accounts and why now? There are two main reasons:

  1. The value of Etch is unlocked after you save some of your favorite places or connect with friends. However, these actions don’t always happen immediately. When you open an app for the first time you’re typically in explore mode. You want to understand the layout and learn what it can do. This is why we launched Featured Accounts. Featured Accounts come with a collection of places that you can see from the start. Without any saved places and without a single friend on Etch, you can immediately understand the app’s functionality by following just one Featured Account.
  2. Whether you’re a new user or a power user, Featured Accounts offer hundreds of food and drink recommendations across the U.S. (some globally) and across various dietary preferences. The Featured Accounts on Etch are influencers and industry experts that have accumulated thousands of followers in social media, made TV appearances, authored books, among other things. If you’re looking for a little inspiration outside of your personal network our Featured Accounts have you covered.

We spent a lot of time thinking about the type of content we wanted to feature in Etch. For example, we thought about featuring recommendations from editorial sites like Eater and Thrillist. However, we ruled them out in favor of individuals who could provide genuine recommendations based on their personal experiences. This approach matches the Etch ethos and accomplishes our goals described above.

You can find Senza Gluten in Jackie’s collection in Etch

We want to give a shout-out to all of our launch partners who took the time to curate a collection(s) of their favorite restaurants for Etch. Go check them out and let us know what you think.
