The film world erupted today with the first trailer for Rhy Frake-Waterfield’s Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey.

The rights behind A.A. Milne’s Hundred Acre Wood and the lovable animals who call it home entered the public domain on January 1, 2022. Disney exclusively owned the rights to Winnie the Pooh and his friends for years but not anymore. Waterfield took advantage of this and announced a horrific take on the story only five months later. Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey’s first trailer promises non-stop gore and slasher fun sure to ruin once-beloved childhood memories.

Set to release later in 2022, Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey tells the story of Winnie the Pooh and Piglet going on a murderous rampage after Christopher Robin abandons them to go to college. Now old and rabid, the two animals are shown wielding axes and hunting down teenage girls. It’s not really the type of story you’d expect to hear Winnie the Pooh taking part in, especially since there’s no pot of honey in sight. If you’re wondering where Tigger and Eeyore are in the film, they won’t be there due to copyright issues with their characters. However, Waterfield says in an interview with Variety that Pooh and Piglet became so desperate for food, they ate Eeyore.

Despite the Hundred Acre Wood notoriously being home to heartwarming children’s stories, it may be best to sit the kiddos out for this one. With the tagline, “This Ain’t No Bedtime Story,” and the poster depicting Pooh wielding a blood-stained sledgehammer, its content is sure to be different from 2018’s Christopher Robin. Hopefully, unassuming parents will notice these things before taking their kids to the new Winnie the Pooh movie.

Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey was shot near the Ashdown Forest in England, which was the original inspiration for A.A. Milne’s Hundred Acre Wood. It features Craig David Dowsett as Winnie the Pooh, Chris Cordell as Piglet, and Nikolai Leon as Christopher Robin. With Waterfield promising that the film will be as wacky as its concept, fans of Winnie the Pooh and horror are in for a treat later this year that’s sweeter than honey.
