Caroline Calloway is the realest influencer we have currently
When I first received a text urging me to read an article about Caroline Calloway (a name completely foreign to me at the time), I quietly dismissed it. Not only did I not know who she was, but I had little reason to care. An article about an Instagram influencer whom I’d never heard of was fairly low on my list of interests.
Later, I reached out to my friend again, asking her to give me the name of this (still) unknown to me Instagram star.
“What was that The Cut article you wanted me to read again?”
“Anna Delvey?”
“No I already read that one. It was a different one.”
“Oh, Caroline Calloway.”
Little did I know that I’d be engrossed in the pseudo-exposé, crafted by Natalie Beach, for the rest of the week. The one thing that was low on my list of to-do’s suddenly became the only thing I read about.
As I read the numerous articles that plagued the internet, it became more and more prevalent to me exactly why I had such an infatuation with the whole debacle: I related to Calloway. More than I related to any other person in pop culture.
As I read her chaotic Instagram captions, her incredibly lengthy Instagram stories, and her longing to be viewed as a unique and creative intellectual by the public, it became more and more apparent to me what I saw in her that I saw in myself.
