Debunking :: Tasks & Hunts

Overview

In a recent Tweet, we shed some light on the various mechanics we’ve put in place in an attempt to fairly distribute allowlist for our project. Why the italicisation one might ask? Well, the truth is, distributing allowlist for any project is a challenging task. If you make it extremely time intensive through means of Discord and Twitter grinding, the majority of people won’t even bother. If you make it too easy through means of collaborating with every and any project, the quality of your community drops drastically and you’re stuck between a rock in a hard place.

Figure 1. The rock and hard place in question.

If your project is hyped, for lack of a better word, the former becomes negligible as people will run to the ends of the earth and do anything they can to secure that juicy mint. We at Ethereus are just getting started, which means that at the time of writing this article, we don’t have hype! This is something that I welcome however, building a community thus far has proven to be a fun and challenging task. Anyways, on to the main attraction of this article which is explaining our Tasks & Hunts system.

The Task At Hand…

If you looked at that recent Tweet, you’ll notice we have two categories that make up our Journey Status. For those that didn’t, please reference the GIF below (Figure 2) which has been placed there for your own convenience. The column on the left represents our Airlock Chamber Tasks, these are relatively trivial tasks that are completed within the Airlock Chamber itself. Upon finishing the latest task, you’ll be prompted to tweet about your completion of that sweet and juicy objective!

Tweeting is key as it allows us to track who has completed these items and acknowledge users that have actually visited the Airlock Chamber. On the other hand, it also lets us know who our day-one supporters are as the previous task tweets are deprecated when a new task is released. Yes, we do keep timestamps relating to when this happens so don’t try any funny business. Now that that’s out of the way, let’s dive into the column on the right.

Scavenger Hunts & Puzzles

This is where things can get a little saucy. For those that welcome an additional challenge, we offer Scavenger Hunts & Puzzles! These are various challenges that can be completed in addition to the Airlock Chamber Tasks and pose a much greater effort. At the time of writing, we have two concurrent hunts running, those of which are displayed in the GIF above. These are more difficult challenges that act as somewhat of a multiplier in determining if you are chosen for allowlist. Where do you begin them? That’s for you to find out.

Figure 3. A clue, burhaps?

If you’ve made it this far into the article, I may as well drop a hint relating to our second hunt. Pay close attention to this Tweet thread and think outside the box. Three smart cookies have solved it so far, so I have faith that you will be able to do the same!

Closing Words

The system we currently have in place isn’t perfect and we may alter it as our community continues to scale, but it’s a starting point. We tried to differentiate from the norm and whilst we do occasionally do the odd Twitter giveaway and competition, we are always thinking of new and different ways to get the majority of our allowlist spots into the hands of the right people. If you genuinely care about our project and take the time to do the majority of the tasks we put in place, rest assured, we will notice. Signing out!
