Ethrone Integrates Chainlink Keepers to Automate Its Core Game Mechanics
We’re excited to announce that Ethrone — our decentralized strategy game — has integrated Chainlink Keepers live on Ethereum mainnet. We are leveraging Chainlink Keepers to securely and cost-efficiently automate the distribution of daily prizes and initiate the start/end of game rounds. As a result, Ethrone’s game engine runs securely and autonomously on-chain without requiring any human intervention.
We decided to decentralize Ethrone’s winner and prize attribution function using Chainlink Keepers because they are operated by the same pool of time-tested and provably reliable node operators that currently help secure tens of billions of dollars for leading smart contract applications, even during record levels of network congestion and extreme volatility. Chainlink Keepers help ensure that prize distributions and new game rounds are executed on-time in a trust-minimized manner, giving our users enhanced guarantees that Ethrone’s game dynamics will function exactly as intended.
Ethrone is an Ethereum-based strategy game where players compete to secure the longest time on the Ethrone during each 24-hour round. During each round, players can capture the Ethrone up to three different times, with each capture adding funds to that round’s prize pool. A player’s overall time spent on the Ethrone will be calculated at the end of the round to give each participant a final score. The player who manages to stay the longest on the Ethrone at the end of the round gets the entire prize pool!
Ethrone features simple game mechanics but requires each user to make calculated, strategic plays, creating a fun and unique gaming experience that changes each round according to player tactics.
Ethrone is a time-based game, which can be challenging to get right in a decentralized world since blockchains are closed systems that are unable to keep track of time in the real world. Integrating Chainlink Keepers was crucial to keep Ethrone’s game mechanics exactly as we envisioned, without extra friction for our players.
Chainlink Keepers use off-chain computation to monitor each Ethrone game round, and then call our smart contracts to start and finish (including payments) rounds when matches end. With Chainlink Keepers, we can keep Ethrone exactly as we intended: fully autonomous, decentralized, and fair.
Chainlink Keepers is a decentralized service purpose-built to manage tasks on behalf of smart contracts. Chainlink Keepers serve as a decentralized, hyper-reliable, and economically incentivized automation bot that wakes up smart contracts when they need to perform critical on-chain functions, which usually take place at regular time intervals (e.g., every day at the same time) or based on external events (e.g., when an asset hits a specific price).
Some of the notable features of Chainlink Keepers include:
- High Uptime — Chainlink Keepers are run by the same professional DevOps teams that have an established on-chain performance history of providing high reliability to Chainlink Price Feeds during extreme network congestion and market volatility.
- Low Costs — Chainlink Keepers have several gas-optimizing features that lower the costs of automating maintenance tasks for users, including a rotating node selection process to prevent gas price auction wars and stabilize costs.
- Decentralized Execution — Chainlink leverages a decentralized and transparent pool of Keepers to help provide strong guarantees around secure contract automation, saving teams time and mitigating the risks around manual interventions or centralized servers.
- Expandable Computation — Chainlink Keepers perform off-chain computations and generate calldata verifiable by smart contracts, allowing developers to build advanced, trust-minimized dApps at lower costs.
Integrating Chainlink Keepers into the Ethrone game engine contract was seamless and straightforward. We were able to focus on the game and execute our vision while letting Chainlink Keepers do the heavy lifting. As we continue to expand our game, we’re looking forward to using Chainlink Keepers on other blockchains, and we’re excited about how other Chainlink decentralized services can enhance Ethrone’s gameplay and create a better user experience.
About Chainlink
Chainlink is the industry standard for building, accessing, and selling oracle services needed to power hybrid smart contracts on any blockchain. Chainlink oracle networks provide smart contracts with a way to reliably connect to any external API and leverage secure off-chain computations for enabling feature-rich applications. Chainlink currently secures tens of billions of dollars across DeFi, insurance, gaming, and other major industries, and offers global enterprises and leading data providers a universal gateway to all blockchains.

About Ethrone
Ethrone is a strategic variant of King of the hill entirely running on the Ethereum blockchain.
Players have to strategize when to capture the Ethrone to maximize the time spent on it.
- Each capture adds to a common prize pool.
- Players only get 3 captures per round.
- Each round lasts 24h.
- The player that accumulates the longest time on the Ethrone at the end of the round wins the prize pool!
Ethrone runs entirely on-chain, automatically distributing the prize in ETH to a new winner every day, without any human intervention.
Ethrone is a game of complete information, and every player has access to the same information. It requires calculated plays, and reacting to the opponent’s plays to win the round.
