- Reflect on your learning and growth during the topic of biology (image, below right). What did you learn? How do you know you have learned it? Why does this learning matter?
In this unit my growth has been enormous. Something that really intresed me was the nitrogenous bases are what makes who you are and sometimes there can be a mutation that can cause you to produce a protein that doesn’t work. This then leads to having a disease because you are not producing the essential protein in your body. And the sequence then turn into amino acids and then proteins that make up your eye color, hair color, skin color and etc. I learned about chromosomes and their that their were DNA wined up together. Also I leared about the basic unit which are nucleotides and they consist off deoxyribose, phosphate and nirogen bases: A and T, C and G. Also I have learned all about the reproductive system, about how the gametes are made. Also all the important organs and hormones that are essential of the reproduction of humans.
I know that I learned this because before this unit I did know that DNA existed and that it was all your information of your body. But I didn’t have an idea about the process of transcription or translation and also I didn’t know what was it made up or the basic unit. Also I wasn't aware that they code for proteins that make every phenotype in your body and about the nitrogen bases and their essential sequence in order to produce proteins. And I didn’t know that mutations in your DNA could lead to disease and it can’t code for the correct protein. Additionally I didn’t know what was a chromosome. This means that I knew that it existed. Also I wasn’t aware that genetic diseases existed. I knew about many different types of diseases but know I realize that genetic diseases are passed on by your parents. Also that it depends if their recessive or dominate in order to affect your protein production. Moreover, I knew what was the repruductive system, however I didn’t actually acknowledge that it hormones are the ones that trigger your eggs or sperm to mature and be able to be prepered. Now I know that I have learned it because this gives me the chance to see the diffrence of my knowlege.
The learning about DNA, the basic unit, transciprtion and translation will make the new generation recognize why you are like you but in a scientifically way. This makes us teenagers be aware that you can be carrier of a disease that you may pass to your babies. Also knowing about sexual reproduction is essential to know because it helps us realize how do we reproduce in a scientifically way. And to let us know that you are carrying a life inside your body therefor emphasizing that you need to be careful because it is a huge responsibility.

This certanly makes me understand my phenotype because I always thought that your blood type was randomly placed on you (with a scientific explanation). But know I know that it is passed by your parents and their traits. I have 3 brothers, my mom, my dad and me. Their blood types are:
Dad- AB
Mom- B
Pato- B
Marcelo- B
Fabrizio- A
Me- B
This means that my mom has a dominant B, however a recessive O and my dad AB. This means that there can be 4 possibilities: 25% of AB blood type, 25% of AO blood type (A is dominant and O is recessive), 25% of BB and another 25% of BO (B is dominant and O is recessive). This conveys that if I am B I could be BO blood type or BB blood type and I would find out when I have a baby.
