Welcome to the World of Web Design

As the web has been available to the public for more than two decades, it is quite interesting to see the evolution of the web itself. Wether it’s the difference in the procedure that websites are created or the way web design appeal has altered throughout these years, there is always a constant change in the world of web design.

With the web being a ginormous factor in people’s lives, many age groups are exposed to utilizing the web. Regardless of what age the individual maybe, he or she will probably discover something on the web, wether it is a answer to a question that he or she sought, or something that the individual simply wanted to recreationally discover. Therefore, most intentions can be solved through the web for all age groups. However, the main difference between these age groups is how they prefer to retrieve their information. For example, as Kate Meyer said in her article “Young Adults/Millenials as Web Users,” she states how teens prefer information that is easy to scan, compared to young adults, who desire more lengthy information that fully “support claims.”

That being said, effective and proficient web design is a powerful marketing tool. A very well designed web will be able to garner much more individuals to return to the website. Although different individuals may prefer their information differently, Aurora Bedford in her article “Trust Worthiness in Web Design: 4 Credibility factors” states that “the perception of quality” will always remain the same. Therefore, she lists the 4 factors as: Design quality, where good visual design and site organization is essential. Upfront disclosure, where websites that are upfront with their information and user friendly leave good impressions to customers. Comprehensive, Correct, and Current, where relevant information is vital. And lastly, connection to the rest of the web, where a specific website can be found in other websites. As these are the basic foundation principles to an effective web design since they can mostly fulfill an individual’s “perception of quality”, the procedures and methods to utilize and implement these basic principles can be altered overtime.

However, it is essential to realize the difference between web design and web development to realize that change, can always be present in the world of web design. Web design is part of the web development process; with web design mostly focusing on the graphic and web content of the website, and web development mostly focusing on building the website through programming. Web design also utilizes markup languages like HTML and web development utilizes program languages like java and python. Web designers focus mostly on the user while web developers focus more on clients. Lastly, web design is usually inspired by creativity while web developers utilize logic. All in all, they need each other to create a website.

By distinguishing the difference between web design and development, it will allow designers and developers to satisfy the desires of the customers or individuals. As time goes on, there is bound to be change in the desires of the individuals and therefore, different and new procedures of web design and development will be required in order to satisfy these desires and qualities. Hence, we are in a world where web design will continuously evolve, slowly but surely.
